Our Mission

To serve and mobilize the church to live out God's heart for the poor and fulfill the Great Commission.

Guiding Values

As a part of Campus Crusade for Christ we strive to fulfill the Great Commission within our own cities. At same time, we seek to be a ministry that is sensitive to the needs of the poor. In light of this we try to minister from a wholistic standpoint. We believe that the Christian walk entails three aspects:

A personal walk with God: God desires that we have a vibrant personal relationship with Him.

A Ministry of Multiplication: God calls us light and salt; it's what we are as Christians. We haven't done anything worthy of it, it comes from our adoption. In light of this, we have adopted a certain Strategy.

A passionate Love: It's easy to love those we like. It's even easier to love those we like that are like us! However, God calls us to love the broken, weary, tired, alien, orphan, widow, and poor. Here's Life Inner City seeks to love the Downcast.

We've been getting to know the people in our church bible study and next week we'll be presented as new members at our Metrobrook church! It's neat to see how we've built relationships and created a home here in Milwaukee. A year ago things were all so tentative!

I praise God and His sovereignty that brought us to this point. It's good to know He watches out for His children.

Ballroom Survival

Have you ever wanted to learn how to dance? Milwaukee has a rec program that offers ballroom survival, and so we took the plunge, made fools of ourselves, and can now dance basic waltz, mambo, swing, foxtrot, rumba, and tango. This does not mean that we're professional by any means, but it does mean we can have more fun. I think we'll be taking more dance classes. It's so worth it!

Seminary

We are considering seminary. Juan is likely going to get an M.Div, while Rachel is not so sure. She might get an Master of Arts or possibly just take classes for enrichment.

An M.Div is basically a 3 year Master's program for those people who would like to be professional ministers. You take classes in Greek and Hebrew, as well as history, culture, preaching, and doctrine.

Summer in the City Milwaukee was a huge success! I am stoked about what God has done. We initiated 277 spiritual conversations and saw 21 decisions for Christ.

Praise God for His awesome work and for the redeeming Love of Christ.

Boxes of Love

This fall Juan will be working on our annual "Boxes of Love" event. About 20 ministries will come together to pack a box of food for Thanksgiving dinner for 1000 families. These will then be delivered by caring people with a message of hope.

He will be getting and arranging donations, coordinating partners, and managing the distribution. Pray for him!

Rachel is working on starting two new after school centers in milwaukee this September! It has been an uphill road for churches to do all that is required to actually begin. However, the future looks promising for both Liberty and Truth and Broken Chain!

Please pray for them and Rachel as they try to bring light to the young people of Milwaukee.

Rachel is working with Broken Chain, a local ministry that is excited to bring the light of the gospel to the community.

Broken Chain has just finished Say Yes! training and will hopefully open a center in November, right after they remodel their existing building.

Please pray for them and Rachel as they try to bring light to the young people of Milwaukee.

Gordon Conwell

Juan was just accepted into Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary. It will mean a lot of tough decisions and difficult transitions within the next year. However, we are very excited and want to invite you to pray with us as we transition to this new stage in our life! We are not sure exactly when we will go, but it will likely be Spring or Summer of 2008.

Ballet

Rachel has been inspired to take a Ballet class here in milwaukee with DanceWorks. She is very excited and has just purchased some Ballet shoes.

Juan thinks that she'll be great at Ballet and is very excited for her. Meanwhile, he is sifting through all the various things he could get involved with in Milwaukee. Hopefully he finds something soon!

Seminary

Juan was accepted into the Master of Divinity program at Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary! We will be moving to South Hamilton, MA (just outside of Boston) in late May or early June. Rachel is still wrestling with what her role will be as we transition, but there are a number of possibilities open to her. We are excited about what the future holds!

BLOC

This fall, Rachel will be leading a BLOC (bible study) for our church Metrobrook! She is really excited and has an excellent excursion into James planned. We will be incorporating service and socials into the regular schedule, so it should be a grand time!

Milwaukee Singers

Juan is singing with the Milwaukee Singers, an adult choir that will be singing Christmas songs every monday starting in mid-november! It's a great opportunity to meet new people and be involved in the greater Milwaukee community!

Barcamp Milwaukee 2

Juan is going to barcamp! It's a technology unconference, and he'll be presenting something along the lines of crossplatform development, or portable applications, or both! Feel free to read about it at our blog.

Last year Juan met some great people. Some, like Mike, have become great friends, others have helped increase our ministry. Who would think that something so fun, could be so productive!

Please pray for Broken Chain Ministries! Rachel has helped them start a S.A.Y. Yes! after school center and they have been operating it since February. Pray for our intern Kara who works there twice a week.

Juan's Spring Classes

Currently, Juan is taking courses in preaching, exegesis, and education! He recently preached in class on Luke 8:22-25. The main idea of the sermon was "Do not fear God, but instead put your faith in Jesus who is God over creation." For his exegesis class he is writing a paper on the discussion between Nicodemus and Jesus in the first part of John 3. Finally, he is also studying unity as an educational component in ministry as applied to catechesis. (What a mouthful!)

Rachel and Techmission

While Juan hits the books, Rachel is diligently working at Techmission and paying the bills. Her commute is over an hour long! However, this is worth it because she can stay involved in urban ministry which she loves. This also allows her to increase her skills as a manager and evaluate what she would like to do career-wise as we stare into the future.

As we've been living here longer, we have met some wonderful people! About once or twice a week we have the opportunity to entertain or be entertained by our fellow seminarians, professors, and church friends. It really creates quite the contrast from our life in Milwaukee where we were in the heart of the city doing ministry. Now we are in the heart of this Christian education world. In some ways it's a bubble, but in others, it provides the space needed for study and preparation for further ministry. Had our adult life started with education we might not have seen the value of it until it was too late.
